Woburn, MA – October 16, 2025 – CJ Biomaterials, Inc., a division of South Korea-based CJ CheilJedang and a leading producer of polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) biopolymers, has introduced PHACT™ MA1350Q, a new PHA masterbatch designed for staple fiber and spunbond nonwoven applications.

Part of the company’s PHACT™ PHA product line, PHACT™ MA1350Q delivers a unique combination of strength, softness, and stability, enhancing the performance of compostable nonwovens used in wipes, diapers, hygiene products, and more.

Product Composition & Technology

PHACT™ MA1350Q is composed of:

  • 45% amorphous PHA (PHACT™ A1000P)

  • 55% polylactic acid (PLA)

PHACT™ A1000P, developed by CJ Biomaterials, is a soft, rubbery, biobased material certified by:

  • BPI for commercial compostability

  • TÜV AUSTRIA for OK compost HOME

When blended with PLA for spunbond nonwovens, PHACT™ MA1350Q improves:

  • Softness

  • Flexibility

  • Tensile strength

It also expands the processing window and enhances the compostability of PLA-based materials.

“This flexibility allows converters to tailor their blends to meet their specific performance and compostability requirements.”

— Jerri DiRenzo, Senior Director of Applications and Development

In addition to performance improvements, the masterbatch offers key sustainability advantages:

  • Faster composting rate compared to PLA alone

  • Certified OK compost HOME (TÜV AUSTRIA)

  • Commercially compostable (BPI certified)

  • Safe, clean, and non-toxic biomaterials

  • No persistent microplastics

  • 100% biobased carbon content from renewable feedstocks

Supporting Scalable Nonwoven Solutions

With PHACT™ MA1350Q, converters can more easily incorporate amorphous PHA at precise levels, enabling greater control over both performance and sustainability outcomes.
